James 5 (Instructions Of Godliness)

1 Timothy 6:3-14

“If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing,”

The Book of James concludes with a series of farewell sermons to the children of God dealing with the warnings on the love of money, grumbling and complaining and taking oaths. While encouraging us to continue in the Lord, enduring patiently as the evil days progresses more and more strange and perverse as the end draws nearer. Reminding the righteous children of God to be grounded and rooted in the Word of God continually while prayer is powerful and effective as long we are in right standing with God and stays right in Him, enduring sufferings to the end with the power of active faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.

*00:02   James 5:1-7
The Holy Spirit speaking through the Apostle James seems to condemn the rich and their riches. He’s not condemning the rich but the pride conceived by idolatry, the arrogance and evil that comes forth from the love of money. Warning children of God do not set our hearts on riches and blessings. Do not fall into the trap measuring our faith, based on what we get monetarily. Guard our own hearts against the temptations of pursuing worldly treasures, lest it leads us away from God in Jesus Christ and ultimately brings ruin. And when we are blessed by the Lord, we need to diligently guard our own hearts that we do not forget the Lord who gave us power to get wealth

*14:40   James 5:8
In order to live this life holy and pleasing to God our Father without corruption, full of faith and power, we must establish our hearts in the Lord. Be grounded and rooted in God’s Holy Word and be of one mind without doubting

*19:05   James 5:10-11
The Word of God does teach the “Doctrine of Suffering” as the Lord Jesus Christ also promised (Matthew 24; John 16:33). We are instructed to take it with the patience of Job for the cause of Jesus Christ. And in the end, we will be blessed eternally (Matthew 6:19-21)

*21:53   James 5:16-20
The Word of God gives these powerful instructions, teaching us to make our election sure. Be ready for the appearance of the Lord either by rapture or by death. And in order to be effective in prayer and in ministry which truly does go hand-in-hand we must be right with God our Father. Because if we are in sin, God will not hear our prayers unless we get right with Him (2 Chronicles 7:14). Love is not only being patient and doing good to one another, but when we see our brethren stumbling and do not withhold truth of God‘s Word, this also is practicing love. To with-hold the truth is practicing a lie and hate. To speak the truth in gentleness is love for one another in the Lord Jesus Christ. For those who know absolute truth must live by the truth absolutely
