In this study we will address adultery and generalize all other types of sins. There has been a couple of people who have asked, “Can God forgive adultery? The short answer is YES! God can and will forgive all sins. Just think of the worse of the worse of all the sins of mankind and God can and will forgive all sins, even Adultery. But there is one sin He will never forgive nor can be forgiven, and that is the unpardonable sin, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. found in:
“And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, (and here is what “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” is defined as) but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” (meaning: never)
So all sin can be forgiven by God Almighty, the Father, through His Only Begotten Son Lord Jesus, revealed by His Holy Spirit, except for the unpardonable sin, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. And God Almighty through His Holy Word and through His Only Son, He raised up the standards of living which we all fall short of. Adultery is as The Lord Jesus taught in:
Matthew 5:27-30 Adultery
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ (the act there of.) But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.” (Meaning: everything that causes you to sin cut it away from your life. Because there are consequences)
The Consequences Of Adultery And All Other Sins
Just because you are truly forgiven by God Almighty, as you come to Him and confession is made to Him as you turn away from adultery and other sins and you forgive yourself. Doesn’t mean you are delivered from the repercussions of that sin or sins. As the saying goes “Every action has a consequence.” Now the forgiveness of sins means that you are spiritually forgiven and that God has promised eternal Salvation for those who turn away from adultery. But their is physical and emotional payment such as: broken marriages, which leads to broken homes and families. Also the battle of fornication or other sexual immorality, that one will battle between the fleshes will and the Spirits will. And what goes with that battle is the feeling of guilt, feelings and thoughts of uncleanness and unworthiness, which can lead to depression, defeat which can then leads to backsliding in a believers life. The loss of faith, which then leads to the loss of Salvation. So in short, it really isn’t worth a moment of pleasure for a life time of hell. You can lose your Salvation.
We must keep in mind that without faith you cannot be saved nor can you please God the Father. This is why the devil attacks our faith through temptations, to shipwreck our faith through sins. Also must keep in mind that all sins will be exposed, especially adultery. for marriage is a Holy, God ordained Institution between a man and a woman that should never be taken lightly nor corrupted. Further more it is the light of Christ Jesus that reveals hidden darkness. It is for our own spiritual good that He does this. He is The Holy God and He cannot fellowship with darkness. He will not allow evil to remain in the Child of God for relational sake between His children and Himself, as it is written:
“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of Light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and will not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”
The Apostle Paul had taught that the battles that we all will face is many various types of sins and the sin nature, found in:
“We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do (sin). and if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sin nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do, this I keep doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work.: when I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law, but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man that I am!”
But if we abide in Christ Jesus we can have the victory over all things, as the Apostle Paul concludes:
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”
For it is the sin nature we will all battle till our dying day. And all sins knowingly wrong yet committed are the vital signs of Spiritual weakness. So how do we become strong against temptations and sins?
#1). Abiding in Christ Jesus. Reading His word on a constant basis, as it is written:
John 1:1-2 & 14 The Word Became Flesh
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.”
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
#3). Going to a Holy Spirit filled, full Bible preaching and believing church. We do these things, simply, to be strengthened. We sin because:
A). Ignorance of the Word of God
B). The Flesh
In order to sin you have to walk according to the flesh to sin. For sin is in the flesh and requires the flesh or self desire to sin. For even the Apostle Paul struggled with sin in Christ as we just read in Romans 7:14-24. And if anyone knows anything about the Apostle Paul, it is that he abided in Christ so powerfully yet he still battled against the temptations of sins. I’m not justifying sins, but we all struggle with different sins because of this sin nature.
How does sin work?
#1). Sin Seek’s opportunity and it deceives
“For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death.”
#2). Sin separates man from God
“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, And your fingers with iniquity; Your lips have spoken lies, Your tongue has muttered perversity.”
And in the New Testament, Ephesians 4:17-19 Living as Children of Light
“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.”
#4). Sin also and obviously Brings death
“For the wages of sin is death,”
“When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when by His own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it give birth to sin; and sin, when sin is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
You see temptation starts at a thought, conceives, and then put into action. Therefore sin is sin by action which brings forth spiritual death. Just like the devil and Eve in Genesis 3. The devil asked Eve some questions, for her to ponder on, to take thought. So thought can then conceive into action and action, to spiritual death. And since sin separates us from God, that is why the Holy Word of God tells us explicitly to take no thought in:
“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, (the devil,) the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.”
And: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
How can a believer and follower of Jesus Christ be forgiven?
As a reminder: The only One who can save us all from the power of death through our sins is through Jesus the Christ, the Son of God.
“Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God-through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
For Christ Jesus was beaten and bruised. He bled and died for our sins, transgressions and iniquities. And rose from the dead on the 3rd day to give us everlasting life and everlasting hope. A way of escape from the judgment of Hell, the second death. No other has ever done that for all humanity, and no one ever will, not even a counterfeit. So the first step is to acknowledge that is Jesus Lord, your deliverer your provider, your savior for those who believe. The next step: Once that is established and acknowledged in your heart, is to be convinced that, what the Word of God promised you can have, YOU CAN HAVE IT! Being convince that God cannot lie. The third step is to confess, found in:
1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to purify (,or cleanse,) us from all unrighteousness.”
For if you do not believe the Word of God, than this step is in fact in vain according to:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”
And lastly turn away from adultery and other sins and turn to the Living God. He is the God of second, third, fourth 20th, 1000th chances or more. We will always Battle this flesh and the devil, through our whole entire lives. And the only way the devil through temptation, and/or our sinful nature have victory over us, is if we allow it to happen, take no evil, tempting thought. Put every thought down into obedience to Jesus the Christ , as a reminder again Found in:
2 Corinthians 10:5
“and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
This takes a lot of endurance, discipline and training it is also written:
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. (That is Salvation.) And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
“But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Pressing Toward the Goal
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
So how can one be delivered from Adultery and all other sins?
Lots of prayer, seeking God’s delivering power. And denying the fleshes will. Also as it is written:
“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to live in us envies intensely? But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
For we now know through this study that there are 2 sources of sins:
#1). The Curse of the sin nature that we all have from birth, through Adam and Eves rebellion found in Genesis Chapter 3. Another words the fleshes will to sin.
#2). The temptations of the devil
For no one can sin without the sin nature nor the temptations of the devil. So in short when we do our part, God Almighty will do His and we will have the victory over all sins and death. As Jesse Duplantis had mentioned a time or two in his sermons, that one of his friends came to him and told him that he needs deliverance from adultery. Jesse told him, ” Tell your wife, and she’ll deliver you.” God Almighty, still LOVES you. The Lord Jesus still Loves you. The Holy Spirit still LOVES you. Though grieved, He still loves you unconditionally. as it is written:
“Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, Who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
But if you persist in adultery or other types of sins that is detestable in the Lord God Almighty’s sight at any degree, than there is judgment that will come. Either in this life or in the eternal life to come. And you never know when the Lord will call your life into accountability. We are here today and gone tomorrow, and if you are not right with the Lord and He suddenly calls your life into accountability, than you will miss heaven. So is there any hope? Yes!
